Storm Chasing with Tempest Tours 2024

Storm Chasing 2024

This year, my chasing was split into two once again. In April, I chased the solar eclipse with Tempest Tours and I returned in June for Tour 6 and 7.

After watching some coverage of the severe weather on the Plains in May, I was wondering what would be left for us in June. Overall, it was an average year with some good structure, some long chases, great lightning but only one tornado of note. Our off days included places I had not yet visited like Two Buttes in Colorado and the Badlands in South Dakota. Continue reading “Storm Chasing with Tempest Tours 2024”

2024 Texas Bluebonnet and Solar Eclipse Tour

In 2017, my search for an eclipse tour introduced me to Tempest Tours as they offered a week long eclipse/storm chasing tour.

We had to chase after clear skies but found them in Alliance, Nebraska, and had an incredible show.

In 2024, they offered another week long tour call the Texas Bluebonnet and Solar Eclipse Tour for the total solar eclipse based out of Dallas. As with 2017, we had to chase for clear skies, this time from Texas to Arkansas.

Again, we were treated to an amazing show. Continue reading “2024 Texas Bluebonnet and Solar Eclipse Tour”

Malta

When my grandfather served in the First World War, he wrote about his experiences in Europe which included not only his time in France, but several months serving in Gallipoli. En route to Turkey, he spent time training in Egypt, and when he was injured in Gallipoli, he was evacuated to Malta.

After having read about his travels, I’ve incorporated some of those places into my own travels. I’ve sailed passed Gallipoli, visited Egypt twice and visited the battlefields in France. Besides Edinburgh, Malta was the only place left on the list.

I was looking for something not too far away for the winter and found that Explore Worldwide had a tour focused on Malta without including Sicily (which I’ve visited before). I’d never travelled with Explore before but a friend recommended them, so this tour was a great way to see what Explore was like. Continue reading “Malta”

Storm Chasing 2023

Storm Chasing 2023

For 2023, I decided to split my storm chasing tours, trying out a southern tour in late April and returning in June for the northern plains.

Interestingly enough, out of the total of twenty-five chase days, nineteen were centred primarily in the southern states. Continue reading “Storm Chasing 2023”

Costa Rica (2023)

In 2022, I returned to Costa Rica as my way to get back into travelling as the pandemic slowly waned. Omicron had cancelled a previous attempt in January 2022 and I rebooked with Intrepid for March 2022. The tour was cut short in Monteverde where we spent three days in isolation before returning to San Jose.

For this reason, I missed out on the zipline in Monteverde and the visit to Manuel Antonio National Park. I decided to return to finish that and add more. I was very lucky to find two back-to-back tours that not only encompassed what I had missed, but added on visits to Puerto Viejo and Corcovado. Continue reading “Costa Rica (2023)”
