Ainsworth, NE to Salina, KS
738 km
I was up an hour earlier than usual with the patter of little feet above. I went for a walk to a nearby park where I finally found a geocache.
We met up at 10:30 for our briefing. There was nothing major expected but they wanted to drive to Kansas since storms were expected mid/end week in the area.
We drove south to Broken Bow for a sit down breakfast/brunch complete with a root beer float.
Just cause.
En route, we said hello to some bison.
It was pretty well a straight line south and a bit east to Salina where a storm was initiating and looked stronger than they anticipated.
And they were moving slower than the previous two days.
We approached the storm from behind, and because it was moving slowly, we were able to catch up and pass under it. We made a quick stop to watch.
There were some suspicious funnel shapes and at least one was reported.
One stop was in a field of flowers.
The storm was swallowing up the storms around it and getting messy. We managed another stop but it was a just a rainstorm by then.
We stopped at Freddy’s for something to eat and then drove back to Salina through near zero visibility in the rain.
The hotel for the night was the Baymont.
And it had an elevator!
