The Winterset Experience

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the 2013 Winterset in Summer literary festival in Eastport, Newfoundland. I was invited to read from my novel Braco as part of the New Voices panel with Grant Loveys (Our Gleaming Bones Unrobed) and Claire Wilkshire (Maxine). Bert Riggs did an amazing job hosting our event, following up our readings with  questions. For a first time novelist, it was a fabulous experience. Continue reading “The Winterset Experience”

Never Forget Srebrenica

Our calendars are filled with anniversaries. For the most part, they are dates set aside to celebrate or remember a specific event. They are also an opportunity to educate.

Thursday, July 11, 2013 is the eighteenth anniversary of the Fall of Srebrenica. On that day in 1995, the Bosnian Serb army invaded the town and subsequently murdered more than eight thousand men and boys. This week, four hundred more will be laid to rest in Potocari.

The Atlantic Book Awards Experience

On May 14, I flew to Halifax for the Atlantic Book Awards. My novel, Braco, was nominated for the Margaret and John Savage First Book Award. The award went to Keir Lowther for Dirty Bird.

From the moment I learned that Braco had been nominated, I felt the nomination itself was a prize and I’m honoured and very happy to have it. And the best part was the opportunity to go to Halifax and introduce Braco to people who otherwise may not have known about the book. Continue reading “The Atlantic Book Awards Experience”

The next stop on my blog tour with Rati Mehrotra

I’m four weeks into my blog tour and the Atlantic Book Awards are fast ratiapproaching. This week, Rati Mehrotra has been kind enough to host me on her blog Rati Writes.

Rati recently joined our writer’s group. She is a science fiction and fantasy writer. Born and raised in India, she travelled the globe before making her home in Newfoundland. She’s currently working on a YA fantasy series titled Asiana and plans to publish Book One in 2014.

Next week, the blog tour ends with Valerie Francis and she will provide the details of how you can win a signed copy of Braco.
