Highlights of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia

Welcome to my Travel Tale of Trafalgar Tour’s Highlights of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. I did this tour from 1-14 June 2012. As a former peacekeeper who had served in Bosnia-Herzegovina during the war in 1993-94, it was somewhat of an emotional decision for me to go back. There were no comprehensive tours of Bosnia itself, but having spent a few days in Croatia as well, I wanted to at least see it again in peacetime.  Continue reading “Highlights of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia”

My Message to Fellow Vets with PTSD

Recently, in Canada, there’s been a rash of suicides by veterans of Bosnia and Afghanistan. It is likely the tip of the iceberg and a problem not limited to Canada. Huffington Post contributor Jeff Rose-Martland gave me an opportunity to tell my story and offer my advice to any veteran considering suicide.

The article can be found here.

I don’t usually ask for shares, but if you are military or think someone in the military might read this, please consider a share. If it can help one person reconsider suicide or help anyone seek help for their PTSD symptoms, it would be worth it.

Things do get better.

My grandfather and I are the only veterans in our immediate family. He was #38 of the First Five Hundred who joined the Newfoundland Regiment in 1914. In 1918, he published his diary in a local magazine.  Continue reading “…the more they stay the same.”

Back to Bosnia: Maybe Airlines

Twenty years ago today I landed in Bosnia to start a peacekeeping tour in a place where there was no peace to keep. I arrived in Zagreb, Croatia in the early hours of 27 October 1993 and waited seven hours for my ride into Sarajevo on Maybe Airlines, the flight service conducted by the Norwegians using military aircraft from Canada, Britain, Russia, Germany and other nations.  Continue reading “Back to Bosnia: Maybe Airlines”
