Trafalgar Tours’ Patagonian Grand Adventure – The Tour of WOW!

In February, 2014, I took Trafalgar Tours’ Patagonian Grand Adventure. Since then, the tour has been divided into other tours with the Buenos Aires/Bariloche portion incorporated into South American Landscapes and the southern portion is now The Wonders of Patagonia.

This was a new tour for Trafalgar, and the moment I saw it pop up in the brochure for the first time, I knew I had to do it.

If you’re into the kind of scenic beauty where you just stand there and go “wow!” then this is the tour for you! Continue reading “Trafalgar Tours’ Patagonian Grand Adventure – The Tour of WOW!”

Highlights of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia

Welcome to my Travel Tale of Trafalgar Tour’s Highlights of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. I did this tour from 1-14 June 2012. As a former peacekeeper who had served in Bosnia-Herzegovina during the war in 1993-94, it was somewhat of an emotional decision for me to go back. There were no comprehensive tours of Bosnia itself, but having spent a few days in Croatia as well, I wanted to at least see it again in peacetime.  Continue reading “Highlights of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia”

Gallipoli – In his own words…

This week marks the 99th anniversary of the start of the land campaign on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. The need for an ice free port in Russia prompted the Allied Forces to focus Gallipolimap2on the Dardanelles. A failed attempt to take the straits with naval power resulted in plans to secure the straits from land. The campaign lasted from 25 April 1915 to 9 January 1916 and ended in a failure that ultimately claimed more than a hundred thousand lives.

My grandfather spent almost two months in Gallipoli as part of the only North American unit to serve in the region. Lance Corporal James Ryan had to lie about his age to join the Newfoundland Regiment and Gallipoli was his first experience in combat. Continue reading “Gallipoli – In his own words…”
