Storm Chasing Tour 6 Day Eleven

20 June 2019

“There’s a town named Dicks?”

Scottsbluff, NE to Sidney, NE (540 km)

Another nice thing about the Monument Inn was that it was located next to a nice neighbourhood. Nice spot for a walk without tractor trailers roaring by.

We met just before ten looking at storms coming out of Wyoming early. We drove south into Nebraska for an early lunch at Dix Diner in the town of Dix.

I had the taco bowl and loved the staff. The owner was so happy to have us by, he wanted our picture on his wall.

We hung around the diner watching for the storms. And running up to watch the trains.

Bill decided on a system going towards La Grange, Wy and we headed that way to intercept. The cloud formations were interesting. This one almost looked like a funnel cloud in the centre.

I got time to take a decent time-lapse of this cell.

We pulled off in front of this tree and I set up a time-lapse wondering if I’d get a shot of lightning hitting the tree.

No such luck. Though, not sure my wits would have liked it.

We moved on, and as we drove, I watched a rain curtain falling like strands of hair.

And Bill pulled over to show us the nice structure on the other side.

This storm wasn’t producing any real rotation. It was all about structure. We stopped near Alliance to see this sculpted system.

Bill pointed out the rings of Saturn around the cell.

We made one last stop and I got a longer time-lapse.

He gave up on the storm as it fizzled and we headed south, hoping to catch another, but it was moving too fast, so we carried on to Sidney, NE for the night at the Best Western Plus Lodge.

Some went over to a steakhouse but I was ready for an early night after an amazing eleven days of chasing.

The next day we drove into Denver and I got ready to continue on with Tour Seven the next day.
