Storm Chasing Tour 6 Day Seven

16 June 2019

“Sunday. SUNDAY!!”

Clinton OK to Tucumcari, NM (777 km)

I was up close to seven and found the internet down. I blew $8 to log on to my data and saw an enhanced risk for Texas. Bill decided to blow that one off since it was in the crazy part of Texas with too many large cities and Sunday traffic.

We headed north out of Clinton, passing by some of the damage from the night before. Telephone poles were cracked off and already being replaced.

Fragments from a metal shed littered one field and a home had lost part of its roof.

We turned west, heading to the panhandle. We stopped in the town of Canadian for a sit down lunch at the Canadian Restaurant.

I didn’t get a discount.

We continued west, taking the scenic route into New Mexico looking for a particular storm that was coming down off the higher elevation.

We drove among the mesas and made a couple stops to watch the anvil grow.

I could even see the aircraft making a detour around the storm.

It didn’t produce anything except a short-lived wall cloud and a little lightning, but close to sunset, it did produce this.

Pretty impressive.

Mini-tour B showed up as the sun set and we drove into Tucumcari for the night.

At the Rodeway Inn.
