Incredible New Zealand with Trafalgar Tours

New Zealand Discoverer – February/March 2012

If you can imagine it, you can do it in New Zealand.

Luge down a hill? Check. White water rafting? Check. Walk on a glacier? Check. Fly over white capped mountains? Check. See penguins in the wild? Dolphins? Albatross? Glow worms? Check. Jet boat ride? Check.

Walk inside a volcanic crater? Hey, why not? It’s New Zealand!

If you’re not into the more adventurous activities, that’s fine. There’s plenty of amazing scenery, fascinating culture and great food to keep you happy. More adventurous? Try the bungee jumping off the original site for the activity. This tour catered to everyone’s tastes!

There are a lot of tours that show a bit of New Zealand and a bit of Australia, but after a close look, I realized the best way to see both was to see them separately. Two and a half weeks in New Zealand is the best way to see the entire country from Cape Reinga to Dunedin.

New ZealandThe current version offered by Trafalgar is called the Best of New Zealand and is virtually identical to this tour except that it moves in reverse. As well, the Bay of Islands visit was an extension at the end while it’s included with the new version.

To break up the trip to New Zealand, I stopped for a night in San Francisco and took the opportunity to check out Alcatraz and Fisherman’s Wharf.

I wrote this tale as I travelled so it is very detailed (and might have a few typos that I’m slowly getting around to fixing).

You can start with the Travel Days or use the Table of Contents to navigate to individual days.

All the photos from this tour can be found on my flickr page.

Enjoy!
